Tiesto - International Superstar

Tiesto's career has been nothing short of amazing. He has had one of the longest streaks of success in the world of dance music spanning over several decades. Through his mix albums, he has helped launch the careers of Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and others and can truly be considered one of the "godfathers" of Trance and dance music in general.

Most DJs started as producers and used DJing as a means to play their music out live to their audiences. Tiesto, however, began his career as a DJ first at the early age of 14 and had several residencies throughout his native Netherlands for close to 10 years before he began producing his own material in 1994.

Over the next several years of producing, Tiesto shifted his musical tastes several times until he finally started finding great joy and success through Trance music. Through his 2000 release "Summerbreeze," which featured his remix of Delirium's "Silence," that went all the way to #3 in the Billboard Dance Charts, Tiesto was able to break into the United States and found great worldwide success and never looked back from there.

His fame continued to skyrocket when he began playing extended six-hour sets without other DJs or opening acts. This idea evolved and eventually led to Tiesto becoming the first DJ to hold a solo concert in a stadium; on May 10, 2003, where he performed for over 25,000 people. This came to be known as "Tiesto in Concert" and which would continue evolve over the years as Tiesto now brings his unique stage show to crowds around the world in the tens to hundreds of thousands.

The crowning moment in his career then came the following year, when he was honored with becoming the first DJ ever to perform at the summer Olympic games opening ceremonies in Athens, Greece.

The body of work and accomplishments that Tiesto has had throughout his career are too numerous to mention, and it cannot be denied that his influence is what paved the way for dance music to become as global as it now is becoming. He has been #1 in the DJ Mag Top 100 charts 3 different times and has always maintained a top 10 ranking for well over the past ten years, which is something no other DJ has yet to accomplish.
